Since its founding in 1996 by Ken Hayes, AIA, Hayes Group Architects has distinguished itself as a diverse design practice dedicated to solving client problems with innovative but practical architectural solutions.

At Hayes Group Architects, we believe design is an iterative process, ensuring that the solutions we create will accurately reflect our client’s core values, goals, and mission. Our architectural style is circumstantial, not predetermined, and responds to the nature of the site, the social and physical context, and to our client’s lifestyle, work style, and aesthetic disposition.

While this philosophy has earned us awards from the design community, its true value is in how it enables us to create solutions that are as diverse in physical response as they are in purpose, and that reflect each client’s personality. And because we believe the best solutions are custom-tailored to our client’s needs, we rigorously manage the size of our firm to provide a personal but scalable experience to all of our clients, no matter how large – or small – their projects may be. Not only does this make it possible for one of the principals to be involved in every project we undertake, but it also leverages the depth and breadth of our staff’s experience and vision, yielding designs of uncompromising quality.

Our Team

Jason Holleb AIA

Principal

Jason joined Hayes Group Architects Inc. in 2000 and has been involved in all aspects and phases of projects as a project designer and project leader. Promoted to an Associate in 2009 and Principal / Vice President in 2014, he is instrumental in managing local projects as well as international projects for our clients, gaining an understanding of working and collaborating remotely in a global environment.

Jason grew up on the East Coast in the Washington DC metropolitan area. After spending several years in the Arizona Sonora desert, he developed a great appreciation for environmental forces and context that guide and shape true environmental site-responsive and sensitive architectural solutions. He also attributes his early design skills and thinking to techniques and skills he gained during his exposure to design and construction of theater and film sets.

Jeff Galbraith AIA

Principal

Jeff joined Hayes Group Architects initially in 2013 briefly leaving to broaden his experience and rejoining in 2017, becoming principal in 2018.

A maker and problem solver by nature, Jeff’s approach to architecture is rooted in the devotion to detail and a broad knowledge of building materials and systems. His early career included hands-on construction experience, with field work in the carpentry, architectural concrete, steel and finish trades. His intimate familiarity with building materials, construction methodologies and the realities of the construction process set him apart from his peers, enabling him both to lead design projects to success, and partner effectively with clients and builders alike.

Ken Hayes AIA

Founder & Principal

Ken has been practicing architecture, as a licensed architect, for over thirty-five years. He is founder and president of Hayes Group Architects. He and his firm have designed projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area including projects for technology companies, financial services companies, private equity firms, commercial developers and homeowners. Ken has particularly strong skills in design and in navigating the entitlement process.

Many of the commercial projects can be found in Palo Alto and Menlo Park where he and his firm have had a strong presence since 1991, having worked on over 200 projects.

Mr. Hayes completed his Bachelor of Architecture degree at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, including a year of study in Florence Italy with the State of California’s International Program. While in Florence, he studied architecture, art and the history of cities and traveled extensively throughout Italy and Europe. He continues his love of travel today, having visited Asia, Central America and Africa.

Silvia Lee

Senior Associate | Architect

Silvia joined Hayes Group Architects in 2005 and promoted to Senior Associate in 2016.

She received her Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and is a registered Architect. Silvia has over 20 years of experience in various types and sizes of projects, including corporate interiors for technology firms and venture capital firms, master planning and code analysis for large scale corporate campus, commercial building shells, and mixed-use buildings.

Terry Murphey AIA CASp

Associate | Architect

Terry joined Hayes Group Architects in 2004 and was promoted to Associate in 2016.

He received his Bachelor of Architecture from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, including a year of study in Florence, Italy with the State of California’s International Program.

He’s managed a wide variety of projects including office tenant improvements, labs, new commercial core & shell structures, and seismic rehabilitations. Terry is a Certified Accessibility Specialist and cares deeply about making design usable for everyone. He served as president of the San Mateo County chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 2013 and remains very involved in professional enrichment. He has a bachelor’s degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and is a registered Architect.

We offer a broad range of architectural and design services tailored to each of our client’s individual needs. This range includes programming/needs surveying, site evaluation, zoning/feasibility analysis, architectural design and documentation, entitlement consulting and more. We also routinely collaborate with a deep pool of highly-regarded engineers, investors, makers and builders who are time-tested and purpose-driven to execute complex projects with diverse stakeholders. The teams we assemble are comfortable operating within conventional and alternative models of project delivery, including traditional design-bid-build, design-build, integrated project delivery (IPD), target pricing and early contractor involvement (ECI).

Our interior design studios provide comprehensive services for buildings we and others have designed including visioning, space planning, interior architectural design, furniture selection and procurement to creatively adapt the interior environment to our client’s needs and the building’s inherent attributes and amenities.
